I know it's been a while...

School, Seniors and stuff has kept me away but have to give a shout out to the blog. Glamour just released their December issue and in it is my perfect NYE dress.... armaniexchange.com supposedly has it, I can't find it. ALAS the quest continues.

If I were to be encompassed in one pair of shoes it would be these. Miu Miu. Love.

Loving the days, but loving counting them down

This past week has been quite a ride. I finished my time at a+o (with some fantastic free stuff), attempted attending a drag show, drank wine on the top of a townhouse that I could only dream to own, got caught in the rain, and spent way to much money. And it was all worth it.

A+O was an interesting detour to my summer. Completely unplanned, and completely... interesting. I walked a lot. A LOT. With no experience in retail production, I was pretty much learning as I went. I soaked a lot in, met some awesome people, and saw a different side of an industry that I love. I also got some amazing clothes. These three being some of my favorites.

I'd been searching for a romper to wear out and this lovely number fell into my lap.
I literally wear this scarf everyday. Literally.
Trina Tunic, oh how I love you.

Great clothes, great time, great people, I will definitely be back.

Ami and Abby came to visit this weekend and it was a blast. We shopped, ate Berry Wild, and took in a drag show. The lovely people she is nannying for allowed us (why, I will never know) to stay in their townhouse in Chelsea. City views, terrace on the roof, and domestic grilling, we all definitely had a great time. The drag show was at Lips, you will all see the pictures, and let's just saw we did Caitlin's bachelorette party justice.

As I near the end of my time here (t-minus 2 weeks) I feel like I still have ages to go, but only seconds left. I plan on being out as much as possible seeing the city that has made me laugh, cry, and curse. I also definitely want to shop...

Side note: Steve Madden's I thought were a find, definitely hooker shoes :( sending back for better option.

so many shoes so little time

I have been talking about fringe sandals all summer, ask my roommates, they know. As I was walking home from a+o the other day I saw a women in the most perfect pair. I couldn't catch her in time to ask where they were from, but my savvy internet skills saved me. Here they are... damn I just bought those Steve Maddens....

Love deals

In Black :)
So I have been lusting after a pair of shoes that my sister bought at DSW for the past week. They are chunky, leather, and totally out of my personal price range due to overspending elsewhere. Thank goodness for Overstock.com. For about half of what they cost at DSW my beloved Steve Maddens became mine.

And now those thousand words...

I know I have been bad at updating, but isn't that how it goes? You start something so enthusiastically, a diary, journal, workout regime, etc., then something gets in the way. Usually life. Well here's me playing catch up.

Starting with the 4th (which ended quite traumatically, wouldn't you like to know), life has been lively. I've appreciated the MOMA, a quite phallic representation of modern art is currently (apparently) very popular, eaten crepes at Bastille Day, and gotten a horrific sunburn at Long Beach.

I would like to take a moment to digress on a slight notion that bothers me horribly. New Yorkers are entitled. Well, rather, they feel entitled to comment on your business. Why is it that when a person (namely myself) gets a sunburn, it is open for discussion? Yes, I know I am a walking advertisement for the American Cancer Association, yes I failed at sunscreen 101, yes it hurts, and yes I KNOW IT LOOKS BAD. So please, if you see my lobster legs traipsing around Manhattan today, PLEASE, don't comment. I know.

Internship wise, Redbook is fabulous. This week I walked away with an assortment of free goodies at both of my internships which makes the work feel worthwhile. Interns are people too ya know.

Downtime is important to me, and that is why I spent $13.00 to see Harry Potter. It was epic. Ron is hot. I also saw The Hangover, Brad Cooper is hot, and now I understand EVERYONE'S statuses.

On the dessert front I have found a new love. Berrywild Frozen Yogurt. I am heading there in approximately 25 minutes, and I can't wait. Cappuccino fro-yo with chocolate covered pretzel topping. Um yes please. Also a great cupcake at Burger's and Cupcakes makes the list (though no where near Baked by Melissa). I have to say though that Crumbs is climbing the list with each sample.

I know this is sporadic, unintelligible, and over all non-informative, but I promise to spend tonight getting a more accurate depiction of life up. Right now, all I can think of is fro-yo.

Ah Harry Potter

I promise to have a whole update-thing later tonight but I just wanted to say... it's Harry Potter day! I feel like I should be screaming it's Rex Manning day like they do in Empire Records, but I don't think enough people would get the reference... say no more mon amour... ok I'm stopping

it's so funny

the thing about dreams is when you realize them, you realize a bunch of other stuff too. Like how great you had it before those dreams, and how great the unknown of the rest of "it" is. I came to New York thinking, well, knowing that it would be the time of my life. And it has. Hands down one of the best experiences of my life. But as I stare out of my lower east side apartment I can't help but realize how much I miss the most important things that make my life great. My friends and family. I know exactly what my best friends are doing right now (all but two who are not in attendance) and there is nothing more in the world that I would rather be doing than (insert inappropriate drinking term here) with Emily, Callie, Tay, Zucc and Court (amongst many others including Christine :) I know that my time here in invaluable, but so are those experiences. It really makes you wonder where you prioritize things and people... your life sure looks different when you are thousands of miles away from it....

Billy's Bakery

I know the cupcake tally has been lagging but tonight I finally added another to the list. Billy's Bakery, sub par at best, sorry I can't even entertain top five unless you stuff it with filling.

To Do Lists

The funny thing about the to do lists that I make are that they never seem to get done. Fold laundry: still in hamper, take out trash: still in apartment, take a shower: shoot, but when it comes to getting up  early and walking or partially walking to work I always manage to get it done. There is something about putting your headphones on, ipod on shuffle, and walking through a city that is new every time you look at it. That will definitely be one of the things I miss most about this city, the unknown.

Today I was alone at Redbook seeing as my editor is in Canada (yes I know) for a family vacation. I felt crazy motivated and instead of busting out early I spent the entire day getting things done. Over ambitious at 5:45 I was reaping the repercussions of that long day with a crabby mood. Apologies to the roomies, I over stretched, literally, and was paying for it. (the knot in my neck is so obscene but icy hot probably costs $50 dollars here so I'm stickin' it out).

Tomorrow I work at a+o and plan on sneaking out a little early to see if I can catch some of the Harry Potter stars walking the red carpet. For some reason I think there will be others that beat me to it..... Darn the luck because there is still that small part of me that would love to put a lightening bolt on my forehead and believe magic is real.

Friday is another FABULOUS (sarcasm) media tour day that consists of the NY Times, Conde Nast, Standard and Poors, and Routers. Definitely a better line up than the first, and with a start time at 9 instead of 8 it could be more than bearable.

I will say that I am super sad this weekend because I am missing one of the reason's my college experience has been so great. Pike. It's float trip and I have never been. Alas I will be that graduated senior next year creeping around the freshman. I doubt I'll be the only one.

xoxo

P.S. Saw the Hangover last night with the roomies and it was everything everyone's statuses claimed it to be.

zsa zsa zu

Today was the best day. I walked to Central Park (its about 55 blocks) exploring the whole way. Got a tasti-d-lite vanilla chocolate swirl, read Vogue, and fell back in love with NYC. Perfect.

I now have a $2 bottle of wine and a concert to attend to. sigh.

playing catch up

You know those days when everything is perfect and nothing can go wrong? 99% percent of my days here are like that. Then there are the days when all you want is some home town lovin. That was how I felt on the 4th. Though Manhattan is great for a lot of things it is not conducive to hoosier. Sometimes I wanna be hoosier. I tried my best with some forty's and country music but ended up just missing home more. Hope you all lived it up large for me.

On a brighter note I did manage to tick off a few things on the to do list this weekend including the Staten Island Ferry (one of the few free things in this town). With panoramic views of the city and a relaxing ride, it was a fab way to start the weekend. Hit up a few dive bars, made friends with some Irishmen :) and overall had a nice time. We also checked out the financial district, Trinity church, and Wall Street.

Saturday Af, Hannah, and I went to Katz's deli for the most intimidating experience of my dining life. Not only does this restaurant need an instruction manual, it needs some advil as well. Good thing the food was mind boggling or else I would warn others to stay away. But I definitely recommend it but share, the portions are enormous.

Today we made pancakes and cinnamon rolls and basically wasted the day away. Just like I would have at home.

much needed...

Though I love the maniacal pace of the city, I am starting to get a little war torn and weary (read: sometimes you don't want to battle to get onto the subway AGAIN). I think what I need is a little R&R in the Hamptons or any beach close for that matter. I hear Jones is looking pretty fabulous, and with the weather finally holding up to NYC standards this 4th of July weekend might be the perfect time to bust out of the city and make like beach girls with a tan. Gosh I need a tan.

weekend update

Pretty much the definition of the weekend.

This past weekend was one of those weekends that go down as the most/least remembered yet ultimately laughed about for 20 years to come sort of deals. Cindy came in town on Thursday, and we initiated her into NYC life with dinner at Xunta (pictures below) and drinks and Michael Jackson tributes at Cheap Shots.

Friday was low key, going to SEA (an offshoot of Spice Thai) for dinner in the East Village, and I called it an early night due to a migraine :(. Note to self: invest in Excedrin. NYC+Migraines = crabby girl.

Saturday we went to the ultimate in white trash indulgence, Coney Island. We had a Nathan's hotdog, drank some Coronas, looked at the atrociously overpriced rides ($6 for a Ferris Wheel ride!) and soaked in the tattooed, drunken mess that was this landmark amusement park.Nathan's Famous HotdogsNote the banner, "shoot the freak" no worries I love ya Caitlin!

After returning home from Coney we took a break then headed off to the Brass Monkey for some quality overpriced drinks, dancing, and harmless conversation with some New York natives. I wish I could recount all that went down leading up to, inside, and after the Brass Monkey, but I still want to get a job after college.

Sunday was spent at Benny's Burrito's recovering with huevos rancheros and mimosas (10.95 for brunch and unlimited champagne and mimosas) then a shake from The Milk Bar at Chelsea Market. Af and I watched three movies, slept through two and a half, and called it a night at 10:30.

Great weekend, great friends, great memories.

xoxo

P.S. ode to the name of this post, I will be attending Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on August 6th. Be jealous.

alice + olivia

Today was my first day at my internship... well my second, unplanned internship. alice + olivia needed some help and since I have Monday's and Friday's off, an appreciation for all things fashion, and the need for resume padding, I was asked to aid them in their time of need. I am working in the domestic retail production section so I pretty much get to do all things samples. I love it. So I now have a full week of work to keep me busy and my mind off missing home and friends. Good thing I have a beautiful city to keep me occupied...

Through the Looking Glass

While Johnny Depp may make most of the strong hearted swoon, the first pictures of Through the Looking Glass (Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland) are kinda freaky. Alas, I will still see it because underneath it all he is still that swarthy pirate that will come save me... someday.

Sugar Rush

Yesterday was quite an eventful day for our little NYC exploration group. The morning started off at the largely hyped H & H Bagels. I tried the Onion and besides the breath issues after (ew) it was delish. Off to the Met, along with the rest of NYC (it was raining, museums get appealing when the outside isn't an option) to see the Model and the Muse exhibit put on by Marc Jacobs and friends. Super inspirational and fabulously designed, it was definitely worth the $10 dollar "suggested donation."

Dylan's Candy Bar was next for a little over indulgence in all things sugar. Daughter to Ralph Lauren, the owner truly created THE candy experience. Though I will say I was disappointed they didn't have Big Kat's. Work on that Dylan. I still squealed like the 11 year olds when I saw the wall of chocolate, I guess some things never change.

Spice for a Thai dinner, and let me say, after some large dinner let downs, Spice really revived my belief in NYC cuisine. The food was cheap, the drinks were cheap, and it all was delicious. I tried the Siamese fried rice, and with a portion big enough to feed an entire family, I was happy and full when the meal was over. It also didn't hurt that the playlist for the bar included Neyo, Justin Timberlake, and old school Britney. Give me 90's tunes and I'm a happy girl.

miss and love.

RIP

So as I was walking, well strutting (the kind of walking that occurs after a few late dinner cocktails), to a bar called Antarctica last night when the most New York thing of my life happened. My heel BROKE off my Steve Madden Gladiator heels. BROKE. Thankfully I was being the resourceful New Yorker and had flats in my bag but I never realized how much I was actually "pounding the pavement" so to speak until my footwear became non-existent. So here's to you Gladiator heels, you did me proud, may you rest in peace.

P.S. Thank goodness I was planning a little trip to the Brooklyn Century 21 today...

love&miss

So a week in NYC, when it's raining, makes you think a lot about the comforts of home that you miss. A car, rain boots, access to your entire wardrobe etc. Though those are all things that make life a little easier, there are a few things in NYC that I would take in exchange for those comforts.

- a date with Rob Pattinson
-lifetime supply of Baked by Melissa (I know I mention it a lot but really, it's amazing)
-a pair of naughty monkey tassel flats/silence and noise boyfriend blazer
-to live here, for a while
-the new Anna Sui for Target Collection

I know these are all things that seem not really related to NYC but I have learned and grown my love for them through being here. I also appreciate coffee A LOT more.

On to more pressing issues, tonight we are heading to Spice Market in Chelsea for drinks and overall "partying." I'm excited, it's been a long week, and I need to chill out. Redbook is fantastic and we are doing a run through for the September issue on Tuesday :)

Sidenote: Spotted Tim Gunn getting into a town car with a very similar coffee to my own. I guess great minds think alike.

P.S. I would like to formally congratulate Hannah on meeting her idol, Lil' Wayne. Congrats.

Boyfriend

If you don't have a boyfriend then I think the next best thing is this blazer. Sexy, stylish, and doesn't speak. Hell, it might be better than having a boyfriend...

Rob Pattinson

I have a slight, ok major, crush on Rob Pattinson, and much to my delight he is shooting a movie in Manhattan this summer. I am currently writing a paper for class, then heading off to the park where my future... is awaiting. Hopefully his other "fans" won't be too disappointed when I arrive...

wishing...

Also, while I am thinking about it, I really wish I would have brought my rainboots to New York. Besides the fact that I missed the memo that New Yorker's think its ok to wear boots year round (summer boots?) it has been raining up a storm and they would have been practical. Oh well, guess I'll have to find something here to replace them... just kidding mom :)

I am questioning, however, Marc Jacobs attempt at "chic-ifying" rainwear. I am personally of the thought that rainwear should be simple, stream lined and not draw too much attention (though my umbrella would elicit a scream from any fashionista) yet Marc (who I hate to criticize) has inserted heels into rain boots. Hm, jury is still out for me.

Harpos in NYC

Ever wonder if your college experience is different from any or everyone else's? Well it isn't. Josie Woods on the NYU campus is Harpos reincarnated in NYC. Except better specials. We arrived after 45 minutes of wandering (courtesy of my lack of directional skills and everyone else's willingness to follow) and inquired what the specials were.

$6 dollars. One Budlight Lime. One shot of tequila. Let me reiterate. $6 dollars. This seems to be a trend in NYC the beer and a shot mentality. Not a good plan for people who can't resist a good deal.

After a few rounds of the aforementioned deal we were enticed by the jukebox. Well, Afton and Hannah were. They were dancing queens, rocking out to Lil' Wayne, Beyonce', and the like. They cleaned out my quarters (and many other onlookers) but it was worth it.

Friday Hannah and I visited Carrie at work and tested yet another cupcakery, Amy's Bread. Following is the ranking of cupcakes thus far.

1. Baked by Melissa (obviously)
2. Magnolia/Amy's Bread (Magnolia's icing, with Amy's cake would make these two close to the top, though if you like milk chocolate then Amy's is for you.)
3. Butter Lane (tastes very homemade, all around standard cupcake).

Then we shopped, grabbed a smoothie, and came home for a night of ramen and 10 things I Hate About You. Classic.

Thanks Mom

A quick THANK YOU SO MUCH goes out to my mother who shipped me a mattress, memory foam, thing. While it does smell like chemicals that would sanitize something unpleasant, that only reassures me of its superior qualifications in aiding my puny, if you could call it that, mattress.

Note to Stuyvesant Town Apartments/ New School Housing: We are people, humans, not rocks or inanimate objects. Provide mattresses accordingly. Thank you.

Off to watch, "fo free," Spice World on Netflix. Slam it to the left if you're having a good time.... oh, ok twist my arm.

A little present for me? - Boy Meets World Reference

So one of the so-called perks of being an intern is SOMETIMES getting free stuff. The tally so far is my roommates tied at 1 and me sitting, pouting, with my two free nail polishes. Afton made out with a bag of Chanel make-up and Carrie, via a Cirque du Soleil trapeze class, was gifted with a Reebok goody bag including new sneakers and some ehem "stylish" $85 dollar stretchy pants. Not to say I'm ungrateful, but no one hates free things...

On the bright side I had the seriously satisfying experience of cleaning out the fashion closet for the onslaught of September clothes that will be coming in this week. FCUK is the first to come in and I have a feeling it will be stellar. And no Mom, that is not a misspelling, nor a bad word, it stands for French Connection, UK.

The city has been fairly pleasant, and the predicted rain has held of to a mild drizzle. Which is nice, but I still wish it was hot so I could stop wearing my pseudo-bag -lady wardrobe. (Read: lots of layers that don't really match because, well, they weren't meant to go together).

Overall a pretty standard week so far. Had Tasti-D-Lite with the roomies yesterday. Diet ice cream, excuse me "fro-yo," is crappy no matter how many toppings you layer onto it so tonight Afton and I got Chinese food. You know, to make up for the calories we missed out on yesterday. Totally fair.

Another housing update, we still have no, as promised, functioning kitchen table, and as we speak my air conditioner is making a noise similar to a hog being drug behind a semi, woo. hoo.

Maybe tomorrow I will join the Hearst running "club," that way I can eat more Chinese... and real ice cream.

rain....rain.....rain........

Today is super miserable. Rainy and humid in the subway station. Gew. Hope the weather if faring better in the Midwest because in the City today, it is downright dismal. On a happier note I get to use my new umbrella :) Hope the rain isn't the kind that comes in sideways or else I am screwed.
